Malasadas Hawaiian Donuts

Gay Bars Germantown

Malasadas, also known as Hawaiian Donuts, are a delightful treat often enjoyed in Hawaii. These deep-fried, fluffy donuts are coated in powdered sugar, making them irresistibly delicious. Whether youre on the islands or craving a taste of Hawaii at home, this malasadas recipe will transport you to a tropical paradise.

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions:

Mix together the flour, salt, and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl

Add a few tablespoons of warm water to a separate small bowl and mix in the instant yeast until it dissolves

Allow it to sit until it foams, a few minutes

To the dry ingredients, add the yeast mixture, eggs, whole milk, softened butter, and vanilla extract

Stir to form a sticky dough

Once the dough has doubled in size, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm location for one to two hours

Preheat vegetable oil to 350F 175C in a deep fryer or large pot

Scoop out portions of the dough and roll them into tiny balls with your wet hands

Drop the dough balls gently into the heated oil and cook, turning occasionally to ensure even cooking, until they are golden brown and puffy about 34 minutes per side

Using a slotted spoon, remove the malasadas from the oil, then drain them on paper towels to remove any leftover oil

Roll the malasadas in powdered sugar while they are still warm, making sure to coat them thoroughly

Enjoy the warm malasadas after serving
