This Baked French Toast Casserole with Streusel is great for a big breakfast or brunch. As its simple to prepare ahead of time, you can enjoy a stress-free morning while cooking a tasty meal for your family and friends.

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf of French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts optional
  • Maple syrup for serving

Instructions:

Put the bread cubes in a 9x13-inch baking dish that has been greased

Combine the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl

Mix the ingredients with a whisk

Spread the egg mix out over the bread cubes so that all of them are covered

To help the bread soak up the liquid, gently press down on it

Put the dish in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight with the lid on

Start by heating the oven to 350F 175C

Put the brown sugar, flour, and 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon in a different bowl

To make the dough look like coarse crumbs, add the cold butter pieces and cut them into the dry ingredients with a pastry cutter or fork

If you want to use them, mix in the chopped pecans or walnuts

Spread out the streusel topping on top of the wet bread in the baking dish

This dish should be baked in a hot oven for 45 to 55 minutes, or until it is set and the top is golden brown

Take it out of the oven and let it cool down a bit before you serve it

Warm it up and add maple syrup

Have fun
